What is a Jacksonville Sign Permit Bond?

A $5,000 Jacksonville sign permit bond is required to pull a permit to install a sign within the city limits.  The sign permit bond must accompany the permit application.  A separate sign permit and for each sign to be erected.  The surety bond is required by the City of Jacksonville Building and Inspections Division and must be in place prior to permit approval.  The bond provides relief to individuals and businesses who are financially harmed by the bond principal.  Harm can be caused by violating City of Jacksonville codes relating to sign erection and city municipal code 326.106.

Do I need a Jacksonville Sign Permit Bond?

In most cases, yes, you will need a $5,000 sign permit surety bond.  However, you don’t need a sign permit bond if you meet all of the following conditions:

  • You are the property owner and are responsible for pulling the sign permit;
  • The sign is not illuminated;
  • The sign does not exceed 32 ft2 in total area; and
  • The sign is no more than 8 feet in overall height.

Please note that all of the above conditions must be met to waive the bond requirement.
